Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) Training.

In order to become an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) you have to meet the following criteria to apply for registration.

  • Hold a full UK or EU Driving Licence for 4 years.
  • Over 21 years old.
  • CRB Checked.
  • A clean driving licence is preferable, if you do have points on your licence you would need to discuss this with the Driving Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) at the time of your application.
  • You must be able to read a number plate at 27.5 meters (with spectacles if worn).

ADI Qualification Process

There are three examinations that you are required to pass before you can go onto the ADI register.

The three stages of qualifying as an ADI are:-

Part 1

DVSA IT Multiple Choice Theory Questions & Video Hazard Perception Test.

Part 2

DVSA Advanced Driving Ability Test.

Part 3

DVSA Test of Instructional Ability.

* Note that on the DVSA Part 2 and Part 3 examination you only have 3 attempts at each, if you have not passed either the Part 2 or Part 3 examination by your third attempt you will have to reapply and start the processes from the beginning. There are no limits to the amount of times you can attempt the Part 1 Examination.
